I’ve been working in marketing ….well, forever.
My career began several decades ago as the director of marketing and promotions for several radio and television stations. I have to admit – it was fun working with different stations, launching new formats and creating memorable promotions like a recreation of the classic WKRP turkey drop, the Wall of Velcro and I even made the inside front cover of National Enquirer for one of my wackier contests, “what would you do for $10,000?”. Trust me – you don’t want to know what people will do but the contest was a huge hit.
I’ve managed and evaluated all sizes of media buys with all ranges of budgets, working directly with multi-national advertising agencies and meeting personally to purchase small, local media radio, television and print. But the landscape of marketing is ever-changing and at a rapid rate so I’m constantly investing in education, allowing me to continually expand my arsenal of marketing tools and knowledge.
In addition to my Bachelor of Arts degree, I’ve studied social media marketing at George Brown College, completing courses in search engine optimization, paid search, web analytics, Facebook marketing, WordPress for blogging and web design. I’ve completed online certifications from Udemy and Hootsuite and achieved the All Star Award from Constant Contact for consistently producing high quality, high performance online newsletters.
I honed my public relations skills at University of Victoria. Heck, I’ve even spent a term at Moscow State University learning basic Russian.
An avid traveler and self-proclaimed spa junkie, Wanda has been researching and writing a regular column on spa trends for the luxury lifestyle publication, Homefront Magazine since 2007. She also serves as a spa reviewer for the international online portals, Examiner.com, Healthy Living + Travel, Spas of America, and has contributed feature articles on spa and travel for Opulence, Canadian Medical Spas, City Style + Living and more. She has explored the diversity of traditional and unusual spa treatments available from down the block to around the world including Russia, Kenya, Japan, Turkey, France, Germany, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Finland, Tunisia as well as in Canada and the United States.
She loves sharing her spa adventures with friends and family, including dragging an unwitting friend along to a salt cave in Bratislava, another to a Russian banya in Moscow and Turkish hammam in Istanbul, and she convinced her sisters and niece to join her for a fish pedicure in Greece.
For fun, she also maintains a blog on travel, spa and life.
After relocating from Ontario to Calgary, Alberta in 2000, Wanda discovered a new career path in the world of spa, beginning as Marketing Director for Santé Spa, Canada’s first medical spa. Working closely with the spa ownership, she was named as Director of Operations for Santé Spa’s expansion, with locations in Alberta & British Columbia.
Keen to see continued growth in the Canadian spa industry, she accepted the position of Chief Executive Officer for the national spa organization, Leading Spas of Canada (LSC) in January 2009. LSC provides support to further build, enhance and sustain the Canadian spa industry and the promotion of Canada as one of the finest spa destinations in the world.
A strong advocate for the spa industry, she joined the International Spa Association (ISPA) and served as co-chair for the ISPA Marketing Committee for several years and has built an extensive community of friends and colleagues in the global spa world.
Wanda’s career began in radio and television, where she served in roles ranging from Director of Marketing & Promotions to General Manager. While working as Promotions Manager in Kitchener, Ontario, she garnered several industry awards for her promotional campaigns and initiatives while rebranding radio stations undergoing format changes. As General Manager in Belleville, ON, she was named to the Small Market Advisory Committee for the Canadian Radio & Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).
